MyNCBI and you!: My NCBI Account access

Learn more about MyNCBI tools and how they collaborate with your eRA Commons account!

For Staff - Getting Started with a NEW My NCBI Account

Make sure that you do not already have a My NCBI account and your PI manages his or her own My NCBI account,  then

  • Ask your PI if he/she already has a My NCBI account.  If yes, then:
  • Create a My NCBI account by visiting My NCBI and choose Registering for an Account
  • Ask your PI to set you up as a 'Delegate' within their own My NCBI account

For Staff - Login or Access Problems

Problem:  You can't login to your My NCBI account - it is locked on someone else's.

Cause: Multiple My NCBI account holders login to My NCBI on a shared computer and you can't kill the session.

Solution: Once logged into the My NCBI system via the eRA login, the computer is logged in to My NCBI, eRA Commons and via a NIH Federated login - to clear this, open this link in your browser.  This should open to a blank page which means the logins are cleared.  Please note, this is a temporary solution - once a permanant fix is in place, we will update this page.

For PIs - Getting Started with a NEW My NCBI Account

Make sure that you do not already have a My NCBI account,  then

  • Create a My NCBI account by visiting My NCBI and creating an account in one of the following ways:
  • Click on the "NIH Login" button and enter your eRA Commons information.  This will prompt you to create a My NCBI account at the same time and establish the link between the two.

OR

  • Register for an Account.
  • You'll need to select a username and password and enter an email address to create an account.
  • Additionally, it is critical that you link your new My NCBI account to your eRA Commons account:
    • Once logged in to your My NCBI account, your username should display as a link in the top right corner.  Click on this to access account settings.
    • Click on the "Linked Account" button and enter your eRA Commons login information.

For PIs - Getting Started if you already have a My NCBI account

If you know (or suspect) that you have a My NCBI account already, follow these steps.

  • Visit My NCBI and sign in using your eRA Login (eRA Commons) account via the Partner Organization login at My NCBI.  This should surface and link your My NCBI account to your eRA Commons account.  Make a note of your My NCBI username and password.
  • Ensure your My NCBI account is linked with your eRA Commons account
    • Once logged in to your My NCBI account, your username will display as a link in the top right corner.  Click on this to access account settings.  eRA Commons should be displayed as a "Linked Account."
