Access to scientific literature is very important for the scientific work in developing countries . As a result of different projects a large collection of e-journals is now available for researchers in developing countries. The number of Open Access Journals is growing steadily as we can see in the Directory of Open Access Journals. Major UNO organizations like WHO, FAO and UNEP have their specific programs for the scientific institutions in low-income countries. Finally a lot of universities, institutes and other organizations are supporting access programs. The most important are INASP, eIFL and eJDS.

All these programs and projects have their own website and/or search engine.

AGORA provides a collection of 1278 journals to institutions in 107 countries. AGORA is designed to enhance the scholarship of the many thousands of students, faculty and researchers in agriculture and life sciences in the developing world.

Individual publishers use the list from the World Bank as a guideline for determining their policies, so some variation in access per publisher does occur. You do not need to sign up for this service as our software automatically detects the country you are connecting from and grants access accordingly. We respond to their national priorities for:

* access to national and international scholarly information and knowledge
* capacities to use, create, manage and communicate scholarly information and knowledge via appropriate ICTs

We also advise and advocate for improved policy and practice in achieving sustainable and equitable development through effective communication, knowledge and networks.

INASP was established by the International Council for Science (ICSU) in 1992, and was registered as a UK charity in 2004.

Based in Oxford and governed by an international Board of Trustees, INASP is run with a small number of full-time staff working with, and through, partners and networks in over one hundred countries.

INASP's work is funded by its partner countries, governmental and non-governmental development agencies, and philanthropic foundations.

In our main effort, we provide books, journals, monographs, databases and other educational materials that are essential for teaching and research but too costly for most schools or scholars to afford. In related efforts, we have used the Internet to help professionals in China consult with their counterparts in the U.S.

Our work is made possible by the generosity and good will of 5,000 individual and institutional donors who have given nearly 10 million books over 22 years, more than half of the foreign academic materials acquired by China's universities in that time.

Each year IBP sends more than 150,000 books to schools, libraries, churches, nonprofits, and Peace Corps volunteers in over 40 developing countries.

IBP is a registered 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization under the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by IRS tax law.

OML is unique because there is no middle man or warehouse. Textbooks and journals are sent directly from the donor to the recipient, who sorts through the medical literature and delivers them to the appropriate nearby medical facility or university.
