The Student Guide provides students with the procedure on how to make a DNA gel, how to prepare samples and load them into a gel, and how to run the MiniOne system.
MiniOne Online Training
SEP is piloting 4 MiniOne Gel Electrophoresis Kits starting this 2018-2019 school year. These kits are almost identical to the our Gel Kits except that these boxes do not require the bulky power supplies. Instead the MiniOnes have a built-in power system that only requires you to plug it into an outlet. To use the SEP MiniOne Kits, SEP teachers are required to complete an online training, explaining the MiniOne Systems, care information, and repacking info. After the training, there is a link to take the quiz and score 100% before your MiniOne Kit can be reserved.
Dye Lab for MiniOne
Dye Lab: Teacher's Guide
This is the Teacher's Guide for the Dye Lab. It includes info on both the Horizon gel boxes and the MiniOne System. If you'd like an editable copy, add a copy of it to your Google Drive.
Student - Background for Dye Lab
The Background provides students with information about gel electrophoresis and its components. This provides important information for the Pre-Lab/Prediction worksheet.
Molecular structures of the dyes used in the Dye lab and the Dye pre-lab activity. Use these structures to help students predict the direction and rate of migration for each dye.
